Nowness interviews Human Made

The people at NOWNESS were able to spend some time with the famous Japanese streetwear designer Nigo, as he handpicked items for his personal collection at London emporium The Vintage Showroom. The force behind cult brand A Bathing Ape, as well as a long list of distinguished collaborations, Tokyo-based Nigo is a long-term vintage enthusiast, citing the rockabilly subculture he encountered as a teenager and 50s American rock and roll icons as prime influences.

Portrait Projecting Ring

Inspired by the 19th Century Stanhopes, this ring was made specifically for a wedding.

“This portrait projecting ring was made by hacking apart disposal cameras in order to find the right lens. In a darkened room, light from a candle or LED passes through the ring to project a series of portraits. A selection of miniature slides were made of different family portraits and inserted into the edge of the ring for projection.”

This ring unfortunetly is a one off, in which Luke Jerram made for my wife. No one else gets this unique piece, unless crafting it yourself.

The Boarding Home

The Skate Study House knows how to recycle to the highest level. Using only secondhand boards, leather, glass, and other classy add-ons make for penthouse worthy furniture. Their most popular creation is the Godfather Lounge Chair.

The entire pad can be decked out from their collection. There are clocks, coat hangers, tables, lamps, and other interior pieces to buy.

The design studio is based in Newport Beach, California. Pierre Andre Senizergues, president/CEO, is also the founder of Etnies shoe. Gil le Bon de Lapointe, designer, along with Senizergues strive to mix skateboarding, design, and green ideas in as styled a way as possible.

Wax Off 2010

Wax Off – Surfers That Art

This show was put on in a gallery South Meblourne, where big names in the surf art world came together for this exhibition. This show was epic in the sense it showcased “all that’s happening in today’s modern surf and art scene.” Twenty three artist’s work was shown in Wax Off with people like Steve Gorrow, Luke Taaffe, Rama McCabe, Jim Mitchell, and Ryan Heywood.

Wax Off 2010 combines talents of the artistic entities that make up the surfing industry in Australia. This yearly social event takes place to relieve the hustle bustle of the everydays lives of individuals and join them together to share the culture of Australia and experience a wonderful contemporary art exhibition.

Not the classic Chanel

Chanel, the iconic brand best known for classic scents, handbags, and women’s wear, is branching out–far out–into sports gear. The classic double “CC” logo now graces everything from basketballs and footballs, rollerblades and scooters, to surfboards and skis. While we can’t comment on the technical aspects of the gear (Chanel is a tad above our paygrade) we have to admit the wood skis actually look pretty awesome.

So, if you want to bring the bling this upcoming season, a whole new avenue just opened up for you. Get yourself into some Chanel equipment and we’ll see you on the next episode of “The Rich and Famous.”

Coffee Cooler Joulies

Coffee Joulies are a kickstater project. On this website someone develops a projects with a funding goal set in place. This means if the goal is not reached by the amount of time allotted,  the creators aren’t expected to develop their project. This in turn allows for anyone to test concepts with minimal to zero risk.

Coffee Joulies has tripled sales of their initial funding goal. This eye catching creative concept has sparked an interest in the coffee connoisseurs. What are they exactly? Plop a few Joulies into your coffee, hot chocolate, tea, or any hot beverage as soon as it is poured and the Joulies will absorb the energy, keeping your drink the perfect temperature for longer.

To be more scientific, they absorb any extra thermal energy your beverage may have when it is served too hot. It will cool it to a more tolerable temperature three times faster than average. once cooled the stored energy the Joulies have will be exerted back into your cup making your warm beverage experience last longer!

The better insulated your cup, the better Coffee Joulies work.
